The
fresh smell when interior painting of a house comes from the evaporation
of the paint’s solvents. Once the solvents have dried out generally the smell
will disappear.
Conducting a furnished interior painting with non-toxic, premium paints will help reduce the initial smell as they are generally low odour and low in volatile organic compounds. When using oil-based enamels and paints the smell does tend to linger a little longer than their water-based counterparts, this is predominantly due to the high level of volatile organic compounds and the use of turpentine which is used as a paint thinner.
